Fun Food Facts
In Turkey, legend has it that a bride can predict the number of children she will have by the number of seeds that spill out of a pomegranate when she drops it on the floor.

Tip Of The Moment
Cooking sour food (tamarind/lemon based) in non-stick ware reduces its durability and the coating is likely to peel off sooner.

    Palak Paratha [Indian Spinach Bread]
This is also referred to as 'Palak Roti' and is extremely nutritious. Great for lunch boxes and even greater for picnics, this rustic bread can be used as a wrap with delicious chicken or vegetarian filling for a very satisfying meal.

Kande Ki Sabzi [Indian Onion Stew]
This is a delightful little dish of whose heritage I am unsure of. Maybe it hails from Western India, but it is the ethnic counterpart of the famed western caramelised onions. 'Stew' is too strong a word for it, as it is essentially a 'sabji' [subji/subzi], which means tempering and cooking vegetables in a pan till they are al-dente [same principle as in pasta].

    Chaat Masala
Chaat Masala is the essence of Indian Street Food and bears the trademark sour and tangy taste of the famed 'bhel-puri' and 'golgappa'. Although there are many readymade varieties available from companies like "Everest", "Mangal", "MDH" etc.. it is very gratifying to make your own, varying the amounts of ingredients to achieve your own unique taste. Make in small quantities and use generously in 'chaat dishes' and sparingly on raw fruit salads and cooked tandoori meat.

Pumpkin & Walnut Dessert [Kabak Tatlisi]
This is a traditional Turkish after dinner treat ... a healthy dessert idea that brings together beautifully the sweet and tart flavours of pumpkin and walnut.

    Simple Lasagna
Take a little time out one weekend and invest it in fresh pasta dough. The lasagna you make from that will be out of this world, I promise.

    Fresh Pasta Dough
I came across this wonderful recipe in a recent issue of the Australian Table magazine. Imagine my surprise when I read that I could actually make fresh homemade pasta in under 1 hour. This recipe is a beauty, it takes the intimidation out of the words 'fresh pasta'!!

Saag Gosht [Indian Lamb & Spinach Curry]
This is a very quick and delicious version of the age old classic "Saag Gosht" which means "Spinach Lamb" literally. It is flavourful, fast and drier than normal curries. I prefer it with Naan Bread instead of rice or 'pulao'.

    Basic Pizza Dough
This is a very handy and quick pizza dough recipe. Make it several times for good practice and then adapt it to make different kinds of pizzas and calzones in a jiffy.

    Gujarati Kadhi [Sweet Yoghurt Curry]
This is a truly authentic Kadhi [Yoghurt Curry] recipe handed down to me by my mom. Anyone who has tasted her Kadhi will tell you that there is something extra special about its rich, creamy consistency and delightful sweet and sour taste. I make this quite often and although I am very pleased with the result, it doesn't compare to the beautiful 'Kadhi' my mom makes.

Instant Microwave Milk Burfee [Indian Milk Fudge]
I think this recipe is the motherlode of traditional Indian sweet recipes. It is quick, takes only 7 minutes in the microwave and tastes as good as the barfi [burfee/fudge] that you buy from the mithaiwala [sweets vendor] at every nook and corner on the streets of India.
