  • To clean varnished woodwork, polish with a soft lint-free duster that has been dipped in a little cold tea. The tannin in the tea helps to enhance the colour of the wood.

  • To remvoe bubblegum from clothes, rub a little ice on it. When it becomes hard, scrape it with a blunt butter knife.

  • To get rid of food smells in the fridge, pour 2-3 drops of rosewater/rose essence on a cotton ball and place it in the fridge in a saucer.

  • To check whether pearls are real or not, put them in a glass of water. if they sink, they are real. Plastic pearls remain floating on the water.

  • Polish copper with ketchup for a great shine. Rinse with hot water and dry off.

  • Clean pewter with cabbage leaves or the pith of an orange.

  • Use olive oil to polish brass. Rinse with water and dishwashing detergent. Dry with clean cloth.

  • Rub squeezed lemon slices on faucet fixtures to make the chrome glisten. Rinse and dry after rubbing.

  • To remove glue splashes or stains from clothes, soak the stained parts in warm vinegar.

  • If silver articles turn black, put them in a saucepan of boiling water and potato pieces. See silver shine in no time.

  • Rub candle wax over stubborn zips to loosen them up.

  • To keep your driveway weed-free, sprinkle some salt between the stones and slabs.

  • Rub a little perfume on the bottom of your iron with a piece of cotton before using it. Your clothes will smell gorgeous after being ironed.
