  • Coconuts often break into two halves with uneven edges. Draw a line with wet fingers around its midriff or where you want it to break. It will break at the marked line.

  • Raw mangoes can be preserved for a couple of days if stored immersed in water. Change the water everyday and the mangoes will not soften.

  • Put six to seven cloves in 1 kg. semolina to keep insects at bay.

  • Wrap sweet limes and oranges in brown paper bags and store in the refrigerator. They will remain fresh for 15 - 20 days.

  • If the flame of your gas stove has turned yellow because of the burnt food deposits on the burner, rub it with sand paper and blow away the powdery waste. The flame will be blue once again.

  • For easy removal of sticker labels from stainless steel vessels, run a burning candle along the edges of the labels.

  • To clean the inside of your microwave oven without scratching the surface, sprinkle baking soda on a damp cloth and gently wipe off the food stains.
