Rice Bran Khichdi

A great health benefit, this Indian style porridge has lots of fibre. Teamed with a chutney or sauce, it tastes delicious too.
 
Prep & Cooking Time: 30 mins
Serves 2
  Vegetarian
Ingredients
   2 tbsp ghee/butter
   100 g rice bran
   100 g split green gram
   1 tsp curry leaves
   1/2 tsp mustard seeds
   2 tsp cashewnuts, chopped
   1/2 tsp black pepper powder
   1/2 tsp cumin powder
   salt to taste
Method
Heat ghee in a 2 litre pressure cooker. Saute the rice bran and green gram with the curry leaves, mustard seeds and cashewnuts for a minute. Add water, salt, pepper and cumin. Mix the contents well and pressure cook on high flame for 20 minutes [equivalent of 6-7 whistles].
Serving suggestions
  • Serve hot with tomato chutney.
