Many recipes in cookbooks call for wine. Can it be replaced by something else?
Wine can be easily replaced in recipes. What you use as a substitute will depend on whether the recipe you are making is sweet or savoury. Replace red wine in a savoury casserole or sauce with beef or chicken stock. Stock or water can also be used to replace in savoury recipes that call for white wine. In desserts or sweet syrups, wine can be replaced with fresh orange juice, rosewater or plain water.
